a few month ago i thought i better do something to help me have kindling for the fire stove in the shop, and because i have a bad back , swinging a maul or small axe would not get it, so i had the idea of the maul working without me swinging it…and it works fantastic..i get a pile of salvaged boards and spend an hour making kindling, and its done for several weeks. i made a wodden foot that sits on the end, i put a bunch of screws into it so they would grab into the wood, and i also drilled a hole on the very end so i could use a tethered screw driver to release the hydraulic pump..i like it…thanks for taking time to look, and any comment you leave, thank you so much. grizz

Me thinks you’ve got a little Da Vinci in you Grizz…

Kind of like a reverse guillotine!

I’m flabbergasted! Why didn’t I think of that ;-)

Great solution!

If the maul will not go to the board, the board must come to the maul.

Ah, the McGyver of woodworking :-)). You know what they say, “necessity is the mother of invention”. Well done.

Oh, it’s an actual kindling maker. When I saw just the title from the projects page I thought it was a kindling maker like any saw in my shop when I mismeasure and cut a board wrong. “I cut it twice and it’s still too short.” Nice work on a useful invention.

Great idea!!!! Kinda like my log arch and the jack I use to pick up logs with. Question, when do I get to see the finished project that you teased me with a couple weeks ago? Anticipation is getting tough to handle…

Innovative and clever—really a very cool idea.
