I feel like a Christmas elf. I have finally gotten all the pieces together to fill orders for the new ‘Making the Wren’ project. Blanks cut out, legs and eyes purchased, DVDs burned, 23-page bound, color booklets printed. . . check, check, check.
So if you (or someone you know) would like to learn how I make the Carolina Wren using 2 common gouges and a bench knife, (i.e.,no power carving), then check out my web site for more information, ,
and look here:
for excerpts from the 3 hour and 15 minute DVD.
I’ve attached a photo of the finished bird so you can see how nice it looks.
Greetings to all,
Donna Menke

Great looking bird, now if you could just package the skill and ability you could make a million. Thank you
for your willingness to share your accomplishments.

That is the very reason why I make these videos and booklets. In person, I can (almost) guarantee that my students will do a good job, but I cannot reach everyone- though that would be fun! So this is the next-best thing- watching or reading about how I do it. I even carry the blanks kits so that those carvers who do not have the resources to make their own can still make a carved bird.
These pictures show one of my classes and the happy students. One of the finished birds is my go-by and I’m proud that the students did such a great job that it is hard to know which one is mine.
Thanks for the nice comments.

Donna—I thought I had stumbled across a taxidermy entry! The wren looks very lifelike that I thought I heard chirping when I clicked on the thumbnails. Very nice work and the students’ work is also well done.

Good work on this Donna, so realistic looks like it could fly away at any moment.
