HD Poplar Gift Box. Went to Home Depot for something, and happen to see this piece of Poplar that had beautiful color in it…. So it stuck and went home with me…. Made this gift box that the wife will use for someone special at her work….It’s 12” x 8” x 5”. with a Purple Heart inlay, and black felt lined bottom and inside lid top… Used those stop hinges from Rockler. They seem to work alright, but after using those Brusso hinges, they make one wonder….Danish oil, and Lacquer finish…Thanks for looking…..Bob

Great craftsmanship and good find on the poplar. Our HD?Lowes doesn’t sell poplar (just pine and fir).

Very nice poplar gift box. I have noce seen poplar with that colouring before it looks great and the added purple heart inlay just ads to the beauty of the box…Excellent job.

Wonderful box! Poplar is such an underrated and overpainted wood. I have seen some spectacular poplar and 99.9% of the time it comes through the shop I work at it gets painted.

Nice job Bob. I’m sure the wife will treasure the box. You found a nice piece of poplar and I liked the way you carried the grain around the mitered corners.

You definitely done that board right. You’ve brought out all of it’s beauty entirely. Very awesome.
