Project Information

Continuing our buildup of a stockpile of manzanita burl bowls for a pending event … we present #16. This bowl is a deep cut in turning with an undercut and faceted rim with a live edge. The outside is tapered in from the bottom into a live edge around the top inch and a half or so. This presentation offered the burl in a manner that accents all of its amazing natural features.

Latest update: The DL40 - Sheared the main spindle cleannnnnn off …. guess the advent of a little extra power from the 3HP 3PH VFD upgrade and the material at hand (manzanita being prominent!) too its toll on the 1" shaft. Looking into lathe upgrades so we can handle this stuff. I also realized I've taken about 1/4" off my main scraper a good wide one too! Gonna be going through tools quickly, amazingly abrasive inclusions in this stuff!

OK It's official - we have kickstarted a campaign on Kickstarter … we need a new lathe and apparently this is a method to get some funding. Read the details, we're offering a generous rewards system that basically is pre-selling our bowls, vases, and vessels in order to fund the purchase of a new lathe.

Please help us out if you can by sharing this link wherever you can - and of course if you want a bowl please sponsor (back) our campaign! - Thank you!
