5” diameter, 6” tall, deceptively heavy.

I don’t know the wood, don’t think it’s oak.

Starting as firewood, turning a spindle, and then a box, is pretty fun and a good test of skills.

Nice barrel. The bark would appear to be live oak. I had to cut an old live oak that was dieing, and saved the trunk and had it sawed and air dried. Very hard, very heavy, hard and beautiful when finished.

I know its not live oak, I am too far north. Water oak, or swamp white oak, quercus alba, maybe. It certainly could be some sort of oak, but I havent looked it up. Its so red near the center of the logs though, i thought oak would stay that uniform blonde and brown throughout and not show so much dark red.

Theres only mineral oil on it right now

Nice turning, looks like a little barrel. That’s the best kind of wood, free wood.
