I finished this small box of Maple and Padauk last night. Been wanting to make one for a lonnnnng time! It is the first, I hope, of many boxes to come. I found making it to be fun and very rewarding.
It measures approximately 5.5”L X 2.5”H X 3”D. The sides are 1/4” thick. It is accented with Padauk splines and the lid is accented with Maple trim. It is finished with beeswax. Thanks for looking.

Very Nice Ted,
Like you I have been planning a bunch of boxes at some point in the future (probably when the ‘good scraps’ bin overflows :).
Cheers,

Very nice box, I like it.
The maple trim accentment on the lid was nicely done. The choice of wood and colour was great that really pops up.
Sincerely: Do you have reason for putting the trim on the inside face of the lid?
Take care and work safe.

Very nice, I love the box. Boxes are very nice projects to brush up your skills and small enough that it is fun too.
Thanks for sharing.

Hey, thanks for all the comments! I don’t believe I ever got as much satisfaction from woodworking as I do now because of LJ! It makes you feel just like a kid showing off a new toy! :)
Woodworm, in addtion to adding the trim because it is pleasing to the eye Padauk has a tendancy to bleed and stain. I figure that over time this would mar the inside of the box.

the box is gorgeous. The lid looks like a padded seat on top. Love the colour combination.
What’s the difference between photo 2 and 3?

Thanks again, everyone! You’re making me blush! :)
MsDebbie, sorry for not being clear on the photos. Photo 2 shows the inside of the box while photo 3 shows the bottom of the box.

Very nice box. The internal trimout with maple is a great touch, and I think it will look even better as the padauk darkens up.

I like!!! The edges you applied to the top make it look a little like a thin pillow – very nice effect! Nice job on the maple trim/inlay on the top (I too wondered why it was on the inside!). The padauk is really eye-catching and complements the maple extremely well! I think purpleheart would look good, as well – most darker woods go well with maple.
Well done!!!
