this was a project me and couple friends undertook over the summer. All of us being longboard enthusiasts and me being a woodworker, we decided to give a go at building our own.

we came up with the design ourselves and transferred it to a long piece of high density Styrofoam and carved with a router to give us foot pockets and bent kick tails. The board is made of 7 1/16 inch rock maple veneer plies glued together and then all put into a vinyl vacuum press with the negative foam mold to give it the shape.

it came out better than i expected for a first time longboard builder. our design was a little to ambitious for our skill level however and it has begun to delaminate in some areas and crack in others. I am still proud of this little guy though. definitely gave us some inspiration for more boards and helped us learn something along the way.

Cool! Do you know what is causing the delam problem? I bet is was fun to get out and carve on something you made!

Thanks guys! And watermark, I believe the delamination happened because we didn’t spread the glue between the layers evenly enough. We only had plastic spatula type thingys. A j-roller probably would’ve helped a lot. But then again I’m not entirely sure haha
