I was very lucky to be able to purchase several bundles of stock material from a discontinued product at my work place a few years ago with the stipulation that I could never resale it as it was. The material is 2” x 6” x 8’ edge glued Honduran Mahogany. It sat in my barn for over a year before I was ready to put it to use. I cut material down into 4’ peices on the miter saw then split them in half on my table saw; took 2 passes each. I planed the material to .825 thick and routed tounge and groove profiles. Installed with flooring gun. I installed this flooring across my entire house, minus the laundry room and bathroom. 1100 sq ft total. Only attaced pictures of the living room since all projects are limited to 6 photos. I also attached a before shot of the living room with carpet. I used 3 coats of high gloss polyurethane as my finish, sanding between each coat. Then I buffed it to a high gloss.

I tried to get a close up picture but the mutt decided to photo bomb all of them. :)

Let me know what you all think. I have an idea of the value added to my home but not sure of exact amount.

Definite improvement over the old floor. Although it definitely improved the property value, most buyers are still clueless about types of wood. Enjoy it for a long time yourself would be your best payback.

I’ve always had the idea of making my own hardwood floors, but I’m just too worried about how much work that would be. Very impressive and final product looks great. Not many people had mahogany floors.

Making the flooring wasnt too bad once I got the hang of it. Installing was another beast altogether.
