I’m the caretaker for a very old mountain community in Colorado. One of our members’ father passed away in New York. She traveled to upstate NY to settle the estate and since she knew that I dabble in woodworking she hauled two cherry boards about 18” wide and 9’ long all the way back to Colorado just for me. No, they don’t have a truck…strapped them to the top of the car. They came from storage in her grandfather’s barn. Yes, they are cured very well.
Well, I wanted to make something for her out of this vintage cherry since she had been so kind in thinking of me. Since I recently made another end grain cutting board and according to her husband she really needs a good cutting board then a cutting board was the choice. It is approx. 12” by 15”, 1 1/4” thick and treated with pure mineral oil. I’m excited for Christmas when I present it to her.
Yes, I still have some cherry left so there will be more cherry projects in my future.
