To make this a short story, I was originally cutting a branch into thin slices for some coasters: simple. But when I stopped and looked at what I had left, this piece with one little stub attached, I thought this is the perfect piece for a cord to go through! I have seen a few iPhone docks already, so I knew it wasn’t an unheard of idea. But I don’t recall seeing one made out of something like this with so much “live edges” or untouched aspects to it, whatever you would call it. Until I buy another charger so I can still take one with me, this charger is not permanent. You have to pull it through just an inch or so, plug it to the bottom of the phone, then pull the cord tight again so it rests back in the dock nicely.
I was used something I had in the garage, some verathane finish, on the bottom and it turned it a nasty old waterlogged looking yellow/orange/blue… Decided I would give some mod podge a try as my finish since when I used it in the past, it seemed to be a pretty true clear finish with a little gloss. Very pleased with it as a finish!
Overall, it was a couple hours tops of work and mainly cause I was having fun with it :) Otherwise, these could be busted out in no time!
