I made this as a house warming gift. Its about 18 inches in diameter. It was quite a challenge to turn somethigng this size for the first time, it didn’t half make the lathe jump about when I got it out of balance to start off with!

Finish is shellac and BLO

I like this alot. Is that an aniline dye on the rim and the center?........... ;-j

thanks for the comments, the dark effect on the rim and centre is done with a blow torch, for the two rings I used a piece of Iroko and friction burned it.

Fantastic platter! Beautiful wood, great shape and the the burning added some nice colors to it. Great job!
