My wife and I have been trying to gain some control over the mis-matched styles of our hand-me-down and second-hand furniture lately. Last year we painted the two tall dressers black and added new hardware. I have had those since I was a kid but they were always unfinished.
The other day I decided to make the short middle dresser match the other two since we are using it as a TV stand. This dresser was a cheap IKEA dresser that my wife bought for college. Now it looks a little more like a matched living room set.
So this is what I did:
- Took the drawers out and cut off the top strip (with the finger slot)
- Glued a solid strip across the top
- Routed a profile around the drawers to match the other dressers
- Added the scrolled shape to the bottom front
- Painted and added new hardware to match

Very nice Blake.
And you made it look just as old as the others.

Great match there Blake. Why throw out a good piece of furniture when you can reuse it.

Huge improvement – you just need to distress it a little more, then you will not be able to tell the left from the right for age.
Nice job

Looks like a great solution to some mismatched furniture. I suspect that we have all had that “mismatched” furniture arrangement at one time or another :-)).
