I read that sassafras is traditional for bed making. It has a pleasant odor that is supposed to keep bugs and evil spirits away ensuring a good nights rest. Well, it at least it smells good.

This gave me fits for a while. I put on the finish before assembly and 1 of the pieces turned a different color than the rest. The piece I made to replace it didn’t fit as good as the original. Then there was when I went to drill for the dowels. I was thinking 1/2” deep, and used a 1/2” bit instead of 3/8”.

I was able to find someone to craft the bedding. She did a great job.

I made jigs for the dowels using MDF. 2 different ones gave me a 1/4” setback on the sides and bottom.

I used my lathe as a horizontal drill press. I put blue tape on the wood, then mark the tape.

I enjoy making the bears and they will light up a kids face for a little while.

I made this guy just in time for Halloween.
