Mildred is about 5” tall and was carved from a single block of basswood and painted with several acrylic washes. He was carved from a pattern designed by master wood carver, Harley Refsal.

Nice work Bob. I like Harry’s little folk characters. Thanks.

Very nice. Are the acrylic washes done with regular old artist’s acrylic paint? Do you seal the wood first?

Harvey, I don’t always seal the wood before painting, but on this one I first gave it a coat of boiled linseed oil. Then painted with washes of regular artist’s acrylic paints.

Thanks Bob. Does the water in the wash raise the grain…and if so, so you care?

With the boiled linseed oil sealer the water does not tend to lift the grain and the sealer seems to help control the paint as you apply it.

So cute and pretty, like the colors and paint work. Great job!
