Very nice. Are the acrylic washes done with regular old artist's acrylic paint? Do you seal the wood first?

Harvey, I don't always seal the wood before painting, but on this one I first gave it a coat of boiled linseed oil. Then painted with washes of regular artist's acrylic paints.

Thanks Bob. Does the water in the wash raise the grain…and if so, so you care?

With the boiled linseed oil sealer the water does not tend to lift the grain and the sealer seems to help control the paint as you apply it.
