Project Information
This box was done for my co-worker and fellow sapper. Also a very good friend, so I took some extra time on his box. The pictures don't show what I believe is my greatest triumph lol. I wanted the lid to sit recessed in the box and not include any hinges at all. I accomplished this by using cabinet poppers (that's what I call them anyway) they are in cabinets and when you push them they lock and when you push them again they pop out. I mounted them inside the box and recessed magnets in the lid when placed on top and pushed down the lid sits recessed and if you don't know about them it takes a minute to figure out how to open the box. Press down on the lid and it pops up so that there is about a half inch gap between the lid and box and you can remove the lid. He loved this and so does pretty much everyone who sees it. Its great to watch them try and figure out how to get the lid off. The sides were done just so I could try it out and see how it looks and it turned out great, I just used my table saw to cut the grooves and with the darkness of the walnut it almost looks like each level floats over the other. The box was joined with butt joints and finished with low gloss tung oil. The pyrography on top was completed with a weller wood burner. Thanks for Looking
