Prehistoric Bible Box

I’ve been wanting to build a box for our family bible for quite some time but have been lacking the inspiration. Eventually the creative juices started flowing again and this is the results. The lid of the box and feet are made from Mammoth Kauri (what better for a bible box than an ancient wood), the sides are walnut and the hinges are rosewood. I finished the box with Danish oil and spray lacquer. It was a lot of fun to create and like most projects I learned quite a bit in the journey.

Vey nicely done—I particulary like your hinges and the simple design on the top.

That is a very nice box. I used the kauri wood once for drawer pulls and it has a nice warm glow when finished. A very appropriate wood for your project.

Very good. I like the clean simple lines. Nice the way the handle and hinges complement each other. I could not see the hinges very well so checked out your projects. Can see your improving very fast. Keep it up.

Nice design, nicely done. I’m intrigued by the hinges – can you tell me anything about how you made them?
