I made this box for my daughters 12th birthday. This was my first attempt at mitered joints, as well as my first splines. I am pretty pleased with the results.

Box is cherry, inlay and splines are birds eye maple
Finish boiled linseed oil and paste wax

Very nice box. Your daughter will really appreciate it. I’m working on my first boxes as well. Just curious, but what process did you use to glue it up? Tape, rubber bands, some type of clamps?

I used blue painters tape for the glue up. I left the tape on while I did the splines.

That looks really great for a first. Great work on the tight joints and splines. I’m sure your daughter will treasure it forever. Great job!
