Just a couple quick shots of the flag display box I made for my father in laws flag.. My wife just lost her dad recently, it was quite sudden. I was completely taken off guard when during the military honors portion of the service, the soldier came over and gave me His flag. My wife had said that there was something small that I was to be given, she would not tell me what it was.
Just kept saying that its no big deal, its not something big don’t worry about it.. etc..etc.. Well, I told her afterwards, that there is nothing bigger that he could have given me. There is no greater
gift than the flag. I was floored, speechless, and honored… So to honor a great man, a great friend, a proud American and a honorably discharged veteran of the Korean War.. I present the flag on one Robert Burke Wheeler. Thank you Bob, I am honored beyond measure, I look forward to the day when we will meet again and can stroll down streets of gold together..
the Box is made of African ribbon Mahogany and some Brazilian rosewood something.. forget what the guy said it was.. but he did say it was like a rosewood or a dark walnut..would be a very dark walnut..
its coated with two coats of Red Mahogany stain and two coats of semi gloss poly..
construction is mostly straight up miters, with splined miters on the top of the triangle.
hope ya all like it.. more so, say thanks to a veteran.

Your flag box turned out great & is a nice honor to your late father-in-law. Your choice of woods and attention to details, like the splines, is very nice.

Thanks for sharing.

Number 59,

Nice box, nice tribute to a veteran. I’ve been meaning to make one of these for my WW II father-in-law’s flag for the last 6 months, this is the inspiration I needed to get things moving. Thanks.

Nice and perfect box. You have given a rewarding gift to a Korean war vet.
