The first Christmas Gift of the season is complete!!

This Shaker inspired entry bench is my interpretation of some of the other Shaker style benches seen on this site.

This version has of course the dovetailed drawer that measures 15” square and is nearly 12 inches deep and is made of hickory and rides on self closing drawer slides
There will be wicker baskets on each side of the drawer for shoes etc.

The remainder of the bench is made in solid cherry.

The finish is a wiped on coat of amber shellac followed by a light sanding with 220 grit sandpaper and followed by several coats of pre-catalyzed satin lacquer.

Stellar job on the bench, for sure…...Beautiful job on the build…...and finish…. although one thing: The Shakers would have never used ball-breaing slides, if you were building it to represent the true style of the Shakers….... But of course, they didn’t have those back then…..!!!!! Still, a beautiful piece…....

A very unique design! Well done. That’s a huge amount of labor.

@Rick your message made me laugh!!
I suppose back in the “Shaker” era (late 1700’s….) they didn’t have a Rockler store down the road where they could buy neat ball bearing slides or maybe they would have!!!
Nevertheless I called it ” Shaker INSPIRED” which allows me to take certain liberties as opposed to “Shaker REPLICA”!!!
But thank you so much for the laugh and the nice comment and I am glad all of you like it!!
I had a lot of fun making it and I will have even more fun giving it away as a Christmas gift!!!
