My son comes home with all kind of crafts from school. One was a full picture of him they put up on the bulletin board and we got it at the end of the year. Usually I just throw them away as soon as my wife’s back is turned but this one was different. I felt like I was throwing my son away. Then it hit me, glue the picture to a piece of wood and give it as a Christmas present to a grandparent.
After you print your picture to a piece of paper just glue it ( I used wood glue) to a thin scrap board. Press with some wax paper then cut out with band saw after it dries. Leave about a 1/16th of a inch so you can sand to the picture to get the blade marks out. Leave a little wood on bottom to fit to the stand. I didn’t but it’ll work better if you cut the dado/groove with about a 3 to 4 degree angle on the base so the pic doesn’t look like it’s falling on their face. I finished by lightly spraying 2 or 3 coats of lacquer.
This small project took me less than 30 minutes and became a thoughtful gift. Not to mention getting some use out of my scrap.

I will have to give it a go, its got to be good for at least 12 months then do another.

So room providing there will be a series of almost 3D images to admire.

Not sure how fading would effect them i guess I will find out!!

robscastle that’s my thought too. It’s so easy to make just try it.

Thanks Monte.

Thanks Tooch. You can’t go wrong. The only part I would hold my breath about about is the finish so you may want to print something out just to try whatever finish you use. It beats taking a chance AFTER you’re done.
