A friend of ours has a small “hobby” farm and has been very kind to let my three kids go over to play and pet the animals. She has a full time job, two kids and a husband to take care of so to stop everything to let my wife and kids come by to play was, I think above and beyond. So I wanted to show her our appreciation with her own sign. I don’t have letter templetes and the ones I saw just didn’t fit so I printed off the letters with a big font and traced them to the cedar board. I routed it out with my plunge router and went along where I had traced it out. Then painted the whole board with black outdoor paint. After that I sanded everything until all that was left was in the indentation. I also added some distessing which will hopefully blend in how imperfect the lines are on the letters. This sign was very easy to do since it was designed to be rustic. It definitely looks better the more you back away from it but it was my first sign so atleast I have a lot of room for improvement.
Thanks.

Nice sign. I have also made some for sale (just a few) and for fun. What I have found that helps is to paint the letters with a paint pen and you will avoid all that sanding or u can use a planer to remove paint faster. Also some fonts lend themselves for straight lines, you need to experiment. You can also use a foam brush to quickly apply paint to edges to give it a different look.
Sign making can be an addictive and fun hobby… Hope to see more of ur signs later..
