I was commissioned to build this gun display case by a young man, for his dad. [retired law enforcement]
Started with rough sawn walnut, after several hours of squaring, planing and sanding, i was ready to cut finger joints. Joints cut using shop made, Screw advance box joint jig [http://woodgears.ca/box_joint/jig.html].
The insert,,,, was trial and error. Did not have access to pistol, so started with a line art drawing.
The decal, is a stain, dark walnut, i used a x-acto knife cutting a slight groove applying stain with small brush.
The finish is hand rubbed tung oil, finished off with several coats furniture wax.
