Well I guess that it is about time that I made and posted my version of the Wood Whisperer’s end grain cutting board. I made this out of walnut and maple. The walnut is from a tree that I salvaged from a individual that was going to take it to the dump and the maple is some that I got from dumpster diving at a mill. I made two cutting boards out of the glue up one of which is 12” x 15 1/2” x 1 1/4” and the smaller one is 6 1/4” x 12” x 1 1/4”. I figure the smaller one will make a good cheese cutting board. Glued with Titebond II. These were sanded through steps from 80 grit down to 220 prior to the finish being applied and then after the 2nd coat of finish sanded with 600 before final finish was applied. They are both finished with 3 coats of General’s Salad Bowl finish that was thinned by 50 percent.

Great job on your cutting boards. It is amazing what we can make from materials saved from the dumpster.

Tom, Thank you so much for your kind words they are appreciated.
Teenage, Andy and Brian, Walnut and Maple are two woods that go well together and especially if you can save them from being thrown away.
Marc, Thank you for your video on the making and finishing of this style of cutting board, it is filled with great information.

Ditto on all above comments. And it’s on my to-do list also.
I’ve got a buddy who does a similar glue-up of his scrap wood to make picture frames. It has a very nice look.
I hope mine turns out this well!!
