Hi everyone,

greetings from Germany. So this is my first post on lumberjocks, although I´m a silent reader on lumberjocks for several years. I like to work with wood as a hobbyist and it´s great to have a platform to share this hobby with other people (there isn´t such an big community in Germany regarding woodworking).

So, first of all, i would like to present you a current project of mine: A mahogany hall table…it´s my first table at all and i thought to give it some asian styled influenced elements. It´s finished with several coats of shellac and rubbed out with wax and steel-wool.

I hope you like it and i´ll post some more projects soon!

P.S. Please be indulgent to my english ;-)

Robert

Very nice.
I can’t keep my eyes from scanning all over the picture, finding new details each time and my brain from wondering how this piece is attached or constructed.
Well done.

Beautiful table! Great design! Is it all mahogany? The legs look to be a different wood.

Hey everyone,

thanks for your comments.
I forgot to mention, that i also used ebony….the small black “connection plugs” as well as the small plugs at the bottom. It´s all made of mahogany, but there is in fact some difference in the color of the legs. I was able to get a couple of mahogany boards from a professional woodworker and mixed up the wood to get enough material for the table. The first picture shows the final table with all finishes and (fortunately) there isn´t a big difference in the wood anymore.

Regarding the joinery: a tried to join the table via tenon and mortise (for the first time), but i decided to make the joints by loose tenons (what reminds me to get a Festool Domino as soon as possible :-) ). But in this case, I routed the mortises and cut some loose tenons. Here is another picture of the underframe.
