This is the first time I have tried to make one of these . I can remember when I was a kid at home my Dad would bring one of these home that cost about $20 from the weekly auction . Gene

Very nice Gene. I’m sure you would be able to sell your work for much more than $20 today

Very nicely done—reminds me of my youth also.

Nice work.
I recently completed the refinishing of one that was a very similar design. Refinishing is not my favorite thing so it took me almost two years to finish. It was my grandparents and had passed to my aunt who had done a terrible job of refinishing it from an original dark walnut color to it’s natural hard maple color. So when I got it I had to hand scrape and detail clean the the whole thing and replace a lot of applied decorative scroll work that was damaged or missing. It was obviously made in a furniture factory circa 1920 because a lot of the parts have a matching number stamped on them. Because my grandparents moved from Aurora, Ill to California in about 1922 they may have acquired it in Illinois. It is the only artifact I have of theirs otherwise it might have gone into my shop wood stove. It looks great now and may pass on to my children.
