After about six weeks of evenings and weekends I have finally completed a media center for my family. I have built many of these for other homeowners but finally had the time to create one for myself. I utilized a type of plywood with 11 ply for superior strength and it had a paper backing that not only painted very nicely but virtually eliminated all blowout or splintering. I wanted to enclose all of my electronics behind closed doors. I will be swinging by the local electronics store to pickup an IR repeater to allow the components to work through the wooden doors and up to 23 feet away. I used two coats of primer and 3 coats of latex topcoat for a amazing finish. Used mini rollers to give the finish an orange peel affect and it is amazing how that hides the imperfections. I need to remember to anchor the unit to the wall today! I used an antique white semi gloss finish and the Kreg Jig received an amazing workout from this project!

An excellent build. Yes, it’s quite the conundrum nowadays to conceal the equipment yet still be able to use the remote. Keep up the good work!

Very nicely done the white is a good color choice.

This turned out really well!
I actually go the other way and show off the imperfections and use chalk paint and minwax finish
I’m always going for the farm style shabby chic though – yours is more formal and looks perfect

We debated black or white for some time but thought white is so much easier to maintain and if we ever sell our home we want it to be neutral!

Great looking media center! Like the design especially the open shelf above with the lights. It complements the room and the sofa. Excellent work!
