A photo of a Karlson speaker enclosure I built from scraps for guitar use (not a thing of beauty but useful). This one is for an 8” speaker, I have built them for a 15” speaker and a 12” speaker. They can make a cheap speaker sound pretty good.

The table is built from Yamaha motorcycle crate wood. It used to be natural wood and was used as an end table, but was antiqued and now resides on the deck

In the 50s and 60s diy high fidelty systems made a popular read in magazines. Speaker enclosures were especially popular and articles to build bass reflex, folded horns, sealed box, corner enclosures and the Karlson enclosure frequented the enthusiast magazines. Now the Karlson has a string of followers and a web site features the original articles and even the original advertisements and catalog pages. http://home.planet.nl/~ulfman/

Interesting! That shape makes speaker sound better?

The theory has to do with front and rear loading for the speaker plus mixing the ported sound from the rear in a non-resonant chamber.
