I am happy with the finish. I pretty much finished all the pieces before assembly (all the interiour slats were cut to be pressure-fit together). 2 coats of a cherry stain; it’s not as dark as I would normally prefer, but it does make the grain really stand out nicely. Light sand between coats. Finished with only 2 coats of a wipe on tung oil – fine steel wool sanding between. It really helped just having the thing in pieces to finish it – no stain bunching or running from corners… I let the final coat cure for 4 days before putting it together and hanging it.
