Tigerwood Low Entertainment center

Sorry for the poor quality pictures, the lighting in the living room is in need of another lamp or two…

I built this entertainment center for my wife because she was tired of having the wires hanging out the back of our old one. We have a rabbit that runs free through the house and he tends to chomp on exposed cords.

The design is loosely based on mission style/arts and crafts and it also has asian influences. The legs are what strikes me when I see this in person. They are square at the top and gently transition into a full round at the base. I created this to match a coffee table that I made (post to follow).

The dark wood is sapele, which has been stained to almost an ebony black. I could have used almost any wood for this but I was able to use sapele scraps out of the trash bin at work, so, that would do. The light colored/streaky wood is tigerwood, also called gonoco alves. The top is a breadboard construction and sports a seagull stone inlay. My last name means seagull in old German so I have taken to inlaying that seagull wherever appropriate.

Any comments, criticism or questions are quite welcome!

Great to see you back!

Beautiful build. I really like the large storage drawer.

Very attractive piece—quite striking! Yes, better photo(s) of the inlay would be great.

This is really nice. That wood just jumps out at you.

Great work on that sleek furniture. Like the great design especially the legs and the drawer and attractive wood combo.
