This checkerboard set was build by my Grandpa, Bazil Wenzel. Grandpa really doesn’t care for computers, but I thought I’d start posting some of the stuff he’s made. Bazil is a woodworker and finish carpenter with 75+ years of experience. At 91 he no longer has the strength to handle larger pieces of wood so he spends pretty much every day building small items in his shop. This checkerboard is made from maple and french cedar. He made 44 of these in the last few days.

Nice work,,,, I should do the same for my Dad. He make some amazing stuff but has never posted or signed up on here. The only time he does is when I post something.

Pretty incredible productivity at any age, “44 boards/boxes in past few days” I am in awe, must be the 75+ years experience, and no doubt a good supply of clamps/layout area :)

Thanks for sharing his work, very nice looking project…

A while back I read on old adage somewhere on a woodworking website. It said “first you get good, then you get fast”. Grandpa personifies that. He is an absolute machine in the shop.

He got his first power miter saw 2 or 3 years ago. After using it a little bit he says “Do you have any idea how much more I could have got done?!” In reference to his professional career.
