My neice is a cat lover so I made her this box. 9 lives, 9 sides. It’s made from cherry. Dimensions are 2 1/2” high and about 5 1/2” across. It has your basic rabbeted, lift off lid with some facets for visual interest. Finish is BLO with several coats of Deft rattlecan lacquer.

The piece of lumber I was working with wasn’t wide enough for the lid so I resawed a piece and glued it up as a bookmatched panel. Even though it was from the same section of the same board the two sides didn’t take the BLO evenly so there’s a color difference between them, but there’s no blotching so I figure I at least broke even…

Wow tricky angle work there. Beautiful job and I think the finish looks great!

Unique and very attractive, even when wood seems to have a mind of its own when you finish it.

Nine is a crazy number. Must have been difficult to cut the angles. Looks great!

Nice Job my Friend, nine sides is tricky!
How did you cut your 20° angles on the side pieces?

Nice one. The faceted lid is an elegant touch.

Lovely and unique box! Like the nine sides design, it must have been a challenge but you nailed it. Great work!
