Maple Box

This is a maple box with a wenge lift I just completed. Part of my group for the next upcoming show we are doing in Pensacola in a couple of weeks…I tried to converge a number of the small ends of the curves together at a centralized location to get a slightly different design effect. Tricky…but fun to try and it gave me some additional ideas for another design. This piece of wenge I used for the lift seems exceptionally dark and in every photo it looks like a black hole instead of a lift…but really, there is a lift there.

That is very nice looking. How do you make such a beautiful design in the wood? Do you have or know of a video on how to build something like this?

Beautifully done as usual. Your wenge lift gives it that mysteries affect. Sorta like the blackhole

I like the converging lines (but then I like all your designs). The feet look longer than usual. They may qualify as legs!

Nice design evolution—hope you’re still using alligator lining, and good luck on your show.

Looks like a Carmel frosting cake! Are the dimensions different?

Great looking box Greg. I think the longer “legs” are a nice feature.

-- Tom Finnigan - Measures? We don't need no stinking measures! - Hmm, maybe thats why my project pieces don't fit.

I have to disagree with you on the lift. Even with my bad color vision, it turned out ok in the pics. I did notice that the lid seems distinctly lighter than the sides. Any particular reason for this? Or maybe it is just me. It is still a stunning box.

Thanks everyone…! It always means a lot when I get such kind comments from my Lumberjock friends…

I did make these “legs” taller for a different appearance…however I think it throws the visual proportions somewhat out of whack for the look i like… and I think the next one with taller legs will be wider.
AScott…i am not aware of any video for box carving but several Lumberjocks such as BoxGuy and Andy have some excellent box making tutorials…

rance…the top is from the same board as the sides and I think the photograph makes it look lighter.
