So Mikhail got me inspired to try this.
I have a very old Craftsman (Atlas) saw and the metal insert is a little off so I tried making a couple of these.
I used some paper and pencil to get the outline, cut it to size on the table saw, clipped the edges and then used my sander to round it out.
I had some poplar from another project which was 3/4 so I ripped it down to the right thickness. My old saw just wouldn’t do it, thus my love for the Craftsman.
It fits really well in the table, a little bit of friction on the corners but not enough to make it hard to place. Gave it a few test runs and it’s great. Much more stable than the original.
I have some lacquer on them right now (all sides) so hopefully it won’t warp.
Thanks Mikhail for the inspiration!
