Those big calendars are handy, but look unfinished just hanging on a nail. I found this idea in the November 2008 WOOD Magazine. It’s a simple half-lapped frame with a small box mounted on the front for pens and pencils and whatever else you need to keep handy. The calendar hangs against a split plywood panel in the center.
It’s made from radiata pine with oak stain and semi-gloss poly on top. I thought it was simple but classy.
