Cedar Bench

So I built an arbor over the summer, and about half way through that project I realized I’d have enough cedar left over for another project. I use a lot of flooring, find it cheap or free on craigslist, so a pile of cedar flooring turned into the arbor and this bench.

The design is from Fine Woodworking, an article on an outdoor bench, though I re-drew it in SU to adjust for the change in dimensions as this was all flooring and glued up flooring.

All the joints are domino loose tenons, finished the bench with tung oil. This is the 2nd outdoor bench I’ve built, the first was quite honestly, terrible, my own design and with many flaws, so thanks to FWW for a really nice design.

Looks very nice! We have an assortment of cheap plastic chairs out be the garden that I would like to replace with something like this.

I live in N. Alabama. There is a place up in TN, about 2 hours’s drive from here called “Grant Cedar Mill”, which advertises cedar lumber at very attractive prices. I’ve been itching to go up there and get some for projects like this.

Very nicely done.

Thanks. Ya a nice cedar mill would probably seem like a huge candy store for some outdoor projects, hopefully you can get up there soon and have some fun!

Looks great. I like all the different wood coloring. I wish we had access to cedar over here.

Schroeder,

Late reply, but is there a good way to share the plans? I have the SU file I could post on the 3D Warehouse, but being somewhat new to Lumberjocks, I don’t know if there is a best way here to do so.
