Project Information

Being both a woodworker as well as a musician I had often dreamed of combining those two hobbies so I finally did on this build.

I had a chance to pick up some Curly Waterfall Bubinga and thought it would make an awesome guitar. I used a pre-made neck from Carvin guitars (I also purchased the majority of the hardware and electronics for the bass from Carvin). It features active/passive electronics for a wide tonal range.

The body wings are a laminate of the Bubinga and Swamp Ash, both are excellent tone woods. The neck is Maple with a Rosewood fingerboard and features Abalone block inlays.

The finish on the bass is simply 5 coats of Tung oil.

It is an amazing instrument and is pretty much my main bass to play live. It is very well balanced and sounds awesome.

Fantastic! Speaking as a fellow bass guy, I'm more than a little jealous.

Some day I'll venture down this road… I've always wanted to build a guitar; not that I play but certainly admire those who do and the instrument itself. If I ever get a chance to do what you did it will make for a once in a lifetime gift for a loved one.

Take care and keep rock'n that Bubinga!

Being a fellow bass player / woodworker myself, let me say that is freaking awesome!! I am drooling all over my phone screen right now! I am hoping to venture down this same road very soon. I have been doing a ton of research on designs and such & yours just made my day!

Thanks 489tad. I have been very happy with the bass. I have all manner and brands of different bass guitars in my stable but this one gets the most playing time.

This looks like a grab bag of all the dream components in one bass. If you have this guy, you don't need any other. Nice design and execution on the woodwork as well. Excellent effort, congrats on a well-built instrument.
