This is “Stretch”, a custom kitty I made for a customer as a memorial for a beloved kitty she lost recently. Many of the custom animals I create are “in remembrance” of a furry loved one lost. While it is a wonderful way to memorialize their pet, there is an emotional factor to creating them custom ones as well. The pressure to capture their personality and character is all the more important. I spent several months just trying to find and decide on exactly what woods I would choose for this design. Once the pattern was drawn and wood found, I was able to begin cutting the pieces. I used figured redwood, several shades of pine (believe it or not!), aspen, pink dogwood (ears), green poplar & ebony (eyes). The tractor seat is Peruvian walnut. My customer presented it to her husband for their wedding anniversary.

Kudos to you Janette for taking on these emotional projects. Being animals lovers ourselves, 5 cats and 2 dogs, we understand the sense of loss when one of our four legged friends passes on. You have done a wonderful job capturing the essence of Stretch with your Intarsia.
