Meet “Calypso”, a very Kool Deep Sea Furie. A very good listener, “Calypso” is a permanent member of the Deep Sea Counsel and though he seldom says much, his advice is respected by all. He can always be found meditating in the Grotto, away from all the Deep Sea Hubbub. He measures 9” x 7” x 1 1/4” thick.

Other fish carvings that I call Aquaknotz are carved out of pine knots but “Calypso” is carved in a piece of Curly Big Leaf Maple. I love the results and hope to carve more in this format. I like being able to carve a fish that is a bit bigger format than a pine knot and it has a different quality.

“Calypso” is flat on the back so he can hang on the wall. I have carved a notch in the back for hanging and Signed it Wiz as well.

Nice work, Gary. This carving looks like an old science teacher I had in high school…...minus the fins of course. I like the choice of wood, I think it adds more character. Thanks for sharing.

A very cool carving. I’m just starting to try mu hand at carving. You’ve got many real nice pieces on your etsy site. I appreciate the talented carvers who post on LJs and your work certainly falls in that category.

I have been a lurker of your Etsy site for a long time. Easy to see why you have so many sales. Must be that great Grants Pass eclectic atmosphere that keeps you inspired…........................

Whimsical, but very charming!
