Black Lacquer and Brass Music Stand

Project by Alan Young posted 478 days ago 945 views 3 times favorited 11 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Here is a music stand for a classic setting. I completed this piece in August of 2007

Ebonized Ash and Maple combined with custom made brass hardware.

The stand adjusts for height by removing a brass pin from the center post allowing you to raise and lower the rack to the desired height.

The rack angle bracket is a simple but effective design.

There are 56 pieces of hardware in this stand design. I counted 30 pieces that I either fabricated or “modified” from their original shape or purpose.

Black Tie optional ? umm maybe not with this!

Boy, there’s just somthing about brass and wood together that makes a wonderful combination. I guess the two are representative of some of the oldest ways we’ve created things to make our lives more comfortable. Very good job! Now, who conducts and who plays in this house? Hmmmm….

Absolutely exquisite! (Yes, I know, Steve already used that phrase, but I couldn’t find one that more accurately described your music stand.)

Two music stand postings in just a couple of days has inspired me to think that I could put one on my to-do list (after the music cabinet . . . which follows a list of several dozen other must-do’s) even though I know mine won’t come any where near either of these last two masterpieces.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Beautiful, and a nice way to showcase both wood and metal working.
