Yes, I know. They’re supposed to be round at the top. If these were for me, there would be a pretty curve up there, but they were commissioned by my brother who is almost 6’5” tall and needed the headroom! Not to mention that square is apparently manly.

These were a big deal for me. Up until I tackled these bad boys, I had mostly tinkered with projects that were for myself and mostly utilitarian. I’m lucky that my brother had the confidence to look at my Pinterest board of I’ll build that some day when I know what I’m doing… posts and say, I will pay you to make that for me. Of course, he picked probably the most difficult of all said posts, but I did it! So that doesn’t matter.

They are made of plain pine, mostly 2×4 and 1×4s, and are Ana White's design. I used a new stain on these (Minwax PolyShades, with the polyurethane already added), and I have to say I’m not a fan. My brother luckily liked the finish, but I thought it was too thick, too shiny, and I didn’t like that it sits on top of the wood instead of absorbing into it. That aside, these are sturdy, comfortable, and beautiful!

I am with your bro’ on this, I like that design. Well done.

While I don’t do ‘pinterest’ I do have a large folder of pictures of things I will do some day.

Ana-white’s designs always look so cool and rustic. These came out looking really nice as well. Not bad for just some construction grade lumber.

Great looking and comfy chairs! Like the design and the finish. I’m sure your brother likes them. Great job!
