Name Plate Utilizing Image Transfer

My wife is what you might call “Just Shy of a Crazy Cat Lady”.

I have already made her quite a few scrollwork portraits of rather famous internet kitties.

She needed a name plate for her desk, so I used a technique I blogged on a while ago to transfer an image of her name made up entirely of cats to a piece of quartersawn sycamore.

The piece measures around 15 inches long and is just under 2 1/2 inches high and around 7/8 of an inch thick.

I used a simple round-over bit to give the edge some character.

A wiping of tung oil and some spray lacquer and it was finished.

My wife loved it – that’s the important part!

Cheers!

-bob

I like this. I am a cat person also so this really caught my eye. Where ever did you find this font, if it is a font or custom art work.

Thanks for the kind words!

This font was actually generated by a Japanese Website.

Here’s the link – you just type in the letters you want and click the button!

http://nekofont.upat.jp/en/

Make sure you click on the “large” font for clarity!

Then a link appears at the bottom of the page that allows you to save the image – neat!!!

A very nice nameplate. I think you’ll find though, that Sycamore, Lacewood, and that series get that look from being flat sawn, not quartersawn.
