Pen Turning Accessories

I don’t turn pens but I got a lesson how to do it from a fellow Lumberjock, Rustic, Tuesday. So I made him these accessories to drill the blanks in the drill press and to press the ends into the tubes in the drill press too.

The aluminum piece goes in the chuck to push in the parts

The little corner block with the punch is for centering the hole on 3/4 Square blanks. Just hit the punch with a hammer and there is good center mark to drill to.

The plywood angle plate holes it truly vertical to drill a hole straight in the blank.

Just made from pieces laying around the shop!..........no finish on anything.
..........Cheers, Jim

Looks well thought out, nicely designed and constructed—gotta love home made jigs! Why buy them when you can build them better.

Nice jig! I have a couple boards with a “V”router groove I use in a vice to clamp pen blanks for drilling. I really like the idea of using the drill press to press the pen parts together. I’ll have to try this! I keep saying I’m done with pens though and then I end up making more.

I’m not a pen turner Jim, and really don’t understand most of this, but by reading the other comments you sure did something good. Nice that you help out others.

Thanks for all the nice comments. I made the angle plate like the one I use in my drill press all the time. Rick had to go in to work early today so he did not see it yet, but I think it will speed up the drilling process a lot.
This is the barter system- he helps me out all the time with computer problems and I support him with tools!!
