Materials: Old growth douglas fir
Finish: Low VOC water base lacquer

One Saturday on a whim we caught the ferry over to Vashon Island. While there, we stumbled on an estate sale that had an entire floor of old growth clear douglas fir flooring for sale. The new owner of an old timber-baron’s mansion was remodeling and had pulled out the entire first floor flooring. Many of the boards still had the old hand wrought square nails embedded in them. By good fortune, I was able to buy 1200 sf for $350. My wife soon had a new floor in her quilt studio. Happy wife, happy life.

Great job on utilizing that historic lumber. I really like that old growth Doug Fir but would have thought it to be too soft for flooring. Yours looks like it has never been walked on! Beautiful!

Sometimes whims pay off. The floor looks great and the old doug fir is really nice.
