Made bow ties for my son and some of his fraternity brothers. He is an SAE and their colors are royal purple and old gold, so I thought the figured maple dyed with TransTint “Dark Vintage Maple” and finished with General Finishes “Arm-R-Seal” semi-gloss got close to old gold. My son actually made the one that is more quilted maple – it was great to be woodworking with him. My wife made the “royal purple” band across the middle. This band closes with velcro on the back so it can be removed easily and a different color band used. The strap was taken off of some cheap bow ties I bought from eBay. They took lots of sanding to get the contours right, but I am pleased with the result.

You did a great job on these. They are really nice and I am sure as soon as someone see’s one, they wish they had one!
