Here is a serving tray I just completed. Made of walnut, maple and yellow heart. The carrying handles are stainless boat cleats. I put 4 rubber bumpers on the bottom. I have started using these a lot. It keeps the tray and cutting boards in place so they do move around. It protects the bottom of the tray/cutting board or a good table from damage as well if there was something on the tray when it is set down. It also keeps the bottom of the tray or cutting board dry. I recess the bumers about 1/4”. I was going to finish it off with mineral oil and use it as a tray for cheese and crackers, etc as well, but the wife wanted a different finish.

I really like the use of the cleats as handles and the recessed bumpers. Clean and neat. What finish did you finally use? Nice job JReed3.

I just used a simple spray lacquer finish.

Beautiful tray! Very clever, great use of those cleats as handles and great idea on the rubber bumpers.

It’s approximately 21” x 11 1/2”. I used a lacquer finish.

Have your say...
