Completed September 2013. I built a pair of these end tables. They are 25” tall and the tops are 18” x 18”. One table completes my rocking chair set and the other completes my guest bedroom set.

The drawers were dovetailed using a Leigh jig. The mortises were cut with a hollow chisel mortiser. The tenons were cut on the tablesaw and bandsaw.

It took me a while to visualize how to set the shelf in the legs. It was simple once I realized that it was a mortise with one side open. I chopped those mortises with a hollow chisel mortiser and cleaned them up with a hand chisel.

The finish is three to four coats of Sam Maloof Poly/Oil finish with a coat of Johnson’s paste wax buffed out with a power buffer. This is about the perfect sheen for my taste.

I need to find the right size lamp for this table for reading while seated in the rocking chairs. My dad turned the wood vase.

This will be my last project for about 9-10 months. I’m moving to MN and will live in an apartment here in FL while my house is being built. I’m going to have a basement shop again…YES!

Awesome piece of furniture.Nice job.End tables are a functional furnishing option that is ideal for putting almost anything on them. With appropriate care, your new item can become an heirloom piece that you can proudly gift to your children or grandchildren.

That’s one classy and well crafted table. Great style, joints, wood choice and finish.

Thanks for the compliments. It was nice to work on a more basic project after working on the wardrobe and rocking chairs earlier in the year.
