Inspired by a design by The Drunken Woodworker. Hope you don’t mind my taking inspiration from you. :-)
I was looking to make something for my company picnic as a kind of door prize to give away. Made this from Brazilian Oak (front and back), plywood, and a piece of Maple sandwiched in the middle. Oh, and a piece of Yellowheart for a handle.
This is the first time I’ve used flocking to line anything. Got the glue a little thick in a couple places, but hopefully I learned enough to avoid that in the future.
Finished with a coat of shellac, then about 5 coats of spray satin lacquer.

beautiful box!
is there any good books, videos or otherwise on making these boxes? I’d like to try my hand at them.

Thanks Matt.
Here is a video by Steve R. (Mere Mortals) I’m sure there are others, but Steve’s is not only informative, but fun to watch as well.

The great thing about bandsaw boxes is that it’s almost impossible to mess one up. It’s all freehand, and whatever they turn out looking like, it still looks good. :-) I’ve made about 6 of them, and none the same.

It’s beautiful, very nice wood combo and finish. Everybody would love to win the door prize. Well done!
