Basket Weave Study Stick

I was given a piece of Paulonia wood to try some carving on so I made a basket weave study stick. Each side has a different weave pattern along with it’s layout. This wood was very soft almost to the point of being like balsa wood. I think Woodcraft is going to start carrying this wood.

Roger,

I love all your basket weaves. They would look great as picture frames. Thanks for sharing.

Quite the challenge! This definitely is a project for one who likes challenges and has patience and a steady hand. One of those projects that could qualify to “Boggle the Mind” Good job!

That’s a very nice carving stick! I’d like to try that as I have a lot of Paulonia wood and it is readily available here.

Thanks for sharing.

Great work. Paulownia is neat: light, strong, stable and attractive. Here’s a box I made of it.

and door frames and drawer fronts

Thanks for posting, I will use it on my current project.

Awesome carving! They look like real parts of the basket.
