Yet Another New Design Change On My Open top Valet Boxes (Bandsaw Box), Pecan

I started brain storming again trying to reinvent the wheel or should I say my wheel anyway on my already hybrid bandsaw box design (valet box), by adding the slab draw fronts replacing the blade cut rounded corner fronts, I think this gives a newer, sleeker design and a cleaner look, though they both aren’t bad, I think I like this new look better, I wasn’t sure of the mitered and splined corners with this change so I did a butt joint but will incorporate on future boxes mitered and splined joints, another feather change is the tray over the false bottom door which I hadn’t been doing, this will allow a quick removal of items in order to access the hidden compartment.

The rest of the features are the same as my previous valet boxes with two large open trays on top, two large drawers, a hidden drawer inside of the large drawer and the small pull out tray acting as the key to access the false bottom door by way of magnets.

The box is made out of Pecan with knotty alder on the inside as the core and Wenge for the pulls, the Pecan, I cut via chainsaw from a neighboring town on friends property, the box measures 12” x 8” x 5” a very nice large valet box and has plenty of room for storage, I have also changed up my finishing process, I first laid a quick coat of tun oil, (dried) then a nice even coat of non waxed shellac to aid the tung oil in sealing up the end grain then came back with 3 coats of satin wipe on poly and a final coat of paste wax.

Thanks for looking and comments are always enjoyed reading and replying too.

Nice work here. I like the new features and am looking forward to the splined version. This has evolved into a beautifully complex design. Keep boxing and keep posting.

Man there sure are a lot of compartments in this one! Its gotta be challenging enough to keep everything in order and not mix up the parts.

I especially like the drawer inside the big front drawer= would definitely be a great place to sock away a few bucks and hide em from my wife for Deer Season.

Very nice Valet Boxes/Bandsaw Box Randy, the pecan wood is beautiful. I like the little hidden drawer in the back of one of the other drawers…very cool idea. Excellent job.

Nice work, Randy. My two favorite features of this box are 1) the inclusion of knots on the front and side and 2) the hidden drawer which is on the bottom, backside of the other drawer. Good stuff!
