Hall Mirror

Project by Greg Wurst posted 468 days ago 357 views 1 time favorited 6 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Built around (mostly) one piece of oak I had lying-around for years and an Ikea mirror. You can read the construction blog here:

The Ikea mirror I used is this one:

If you’re interested the Sketchup files and Excel material list can be had here:

While much more challenging and frustrating than it should have been, I am satisfied and the wife likes it so that’s the most important thing! :)

Great looking mirror for the foyer. I have admired various mirrors similar to this at my favorite antique store. I guess I will have to make one. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! Love the flutes, arches, and bevels. Very well done!
What kind of joints did you use?

The main frame and top and bottom are attached with pocket screws and the other moldings are glued-on. I’m very fond of pocket screws for their ease and strength where they aren’t visible.

Very nice Greg. This looks great. I also love the fluting and the overall design.

A little update here: My in laws requested a mirror so I went to Ikea to get another one. They have it there still, but no they ARE 47 1/4” long instead of the 47 3/4” I had. Apparently I got one of the last of an old stock that was 1/2” longer. As such, I’ve updated my Sketchup models and material lists to reflect the correct size. If you downloaded them before you may want to get the updated versions.
